Uni Life…

Firstly I must apologise for my lack of posting in the last few weeks or so (not that anyone really cared but hey ho). The reason and excuse if you can call it that, is that I have now left for University and have just indulged in my first and maybe last Freshers Week, ever! Yeah, I can literally hear the nodding heads of past students who have all, for one week only, forgotten how to live like normal human beings.

In Freshers Week anything goes, and I mean anything! Getting up to a mid afternoon sun splashing through your mouldy window is a normality and fast food, that you would not touch with a barge poll at any other time, is consumed in the early hours of the morning after a long, sweaty night outs. Standard practice.

For anyone who’s not to sure what a Freshers Week is: It’s simply a week jam-packed full of social events allowing students to meet and greet and get to know each other. In many ways it’s brilliant you can start talking to random individuals on the basis that no one knows anyone. This is where the outrageously confident people come alive. They absolutely love it!

After the initial shock of realising that actually I would now have to do my own washing and cooking settled down I decided it was time to give a bit of dreaded cooking a go. Now you’ll be glad to know I wasn’t ambitious in anyway.

Chicken and a Uncle Ben’s packet of rice sounded like a good idea at the time, ok! Well who knew fire alarms were so easy to set off these days, ridiculous! I mean they don’t even give you a chance. Not only did I set off the fire alarm, I managed to time it to the exact moment someone came to the door, so the whole of my courtyard could see the smoky debris leaking from the kitchen. What can I say? Some people are simply born talented. The Chicken was just about edible for anyone that was wondering! 1-0 me, I believe.

It’s been a few weeks now and every time I attempt chicken the fire alarms starts to wail in that ear pitching, screeching scream. Brilliant. I might as well go out and shout to everyone that has functioning ears, that I’ve just burnt my chicken and desperately need my mum to make me a proper meal. Ah well, that’s life and all part of the wonderful process of growing up and to be honest I will look back in fondness to these days I’m sure. Well I flippin’ hope I do!
